The Whisper Fan Controller

As I've already mentioned, I spent last week at the IBEX industry show out in Louisville, Kentucky. While there I had an opportunity to check in with our friends at Dometic Group for a look at what's new in their world. One item really caught my eye, especially because it can be easily retro-fitted to existing boats with Dometic Group AC units installed, whch covers any boat with either a Crusair or Marine Air System installed. So you ask, how does this thing work? Its actually fairly simple. Rather than using traditional triac control to vary the power delivery to the blower fan, the Whisper Fan uses pulse width modulation to pulse the voltage supply to the blower motor hundreds of times faster than the norm. By smootrhing out the power delivery, the net effect is quieter motor operation, and believe me it is really quiet! If you're like me and really enjoy the sound of silence after a long day of listening to people, this could be just the ticket for you!
