The new 44 foot David Pedrick-designed Leadership 44s to replace old Luders training craft.
Hull #1, Sheerwater, will be delivered today to the USCG Academy. Morris was selected over Hinckley, Tartan, Goetz and Pearson and is scheduled to build seven more boats in the next 18 months. Hulls #2 and #3 are currently under construction. Morris was able to bring back 20 skilled workers to complete the contract which is both fortunate and timely for a struggling marine economy.
The purpose of the yachts is to teach future maritime officers small craft command, navigation, and seamanship and to instill in them a love of the sea and its lore. I wish my college education had included these. Photos from Morris Yachts. Add your comment |
